For as much criticism as Michigan State received in 2016, it simply has not mattered on the recruiting trail within the Spartans home state. On Saturday evening prior to Michigan State's game vs. Notre Dame, Oak Park 2019 QB "ATH" Dwan Mathis committed to Michigan State and is the 2nd elite 2019 recruit to verbally commit. Walled Lake Western 2019 OT Spencer Brown committed to MSU prior to his junior season while Mathis committed during his junior season.

The Spartans will be receiving a strong and accurate armed, dual-threat QB with a burning competitive desire that fits in well for a program such as Michigan State.

"It has always felt like home every since I was a kid," said Dwan Mathis.

Mathis originally committed to Iowa State over the summer but opened things up during camp season and earned a lot of praise and strong evaluations during the summer.

Mathis' first offer was from Akron when he was technically in 8th grade and the QB has only improved since.
